Reid Blair is owned and managed by Elizabeth Reid Blair, who obtained an Honours Degree in English from Aberdeen University before achieving a law degree from Strathclyde University. On graduating, Ms Blair trained at one of Scotland's largest legal firms in Glasgow, before returning to Arran, with a young family, to set up her own company in 2000.
Family roots reach back several generations on Arran, where Ms Blair is the only resident solicitor specialising in an integrated conveyancing and estate agency service (also Wills, leases, winding-up estates and general legal advice). A detailed knowledge of island life and local contacts are of great benefit to clients, (buying or selling), ranging from house price trends, local builders, locations etc.
A deliberately small firm, all business is conducted exclusively by the owner; there is no delegation. Due to size, the firm is not obliged to register for VAT, which enables financial rewards to clients, with no VAT on legal bills or estate agency commission (commission rate currently 1%).
The legal firm joined the GSPC in 2005 and has built a reputation for old-fashioned reliability and customer satisfaction in uncertain times. The relationship between the firm and clients is founded on mutual trust. As a measure of this trust, their estate agency contract is a replica of ‘Which?' the consumer watchdog's ‘fair terms' contract for estate agents. The firm provides a free service to collect and return viewers to Brodick Pier. If you would like a free, no obligation valuation of your home, more information about the firm or if you just want to know what it is like to live on a Scottish island, please contact Ms Blair by e-mail or telephone.
