A joint venture between is breathing new life into it, creating 326 apartments, duplexes, cottages, townhouses and detached villas, all spread between conversions of the established buildings and completely new constructions. The heavily landscaped garden grounds will be retained, forming an aesthetically pleasing edge, and despite considerable neglect, Burrell Company will craft 131 individual homes out of the old Art Deco buildings, while Kier will add 195 sympathetically-designed new properties.

Overview: Of the 13 townhouses being built here, each is easily spotted thanks to the dramatic contrast of cladding materials and colours, each townhouse has private front and rear gardens, a brace of parking spaces, and a landscaped play area directly opposite. At the entrance level, the dining kitchen and separate dining room can be found, both served by a ground floor cloakroom. Ascend one storey and you reach the balconied lounge, designed along Victorian principles, and in this case sharing floor space with two double bedrooms and another cloakroom. Finally, the top level includes a master apartment with a west-facing terrace and luxurious en-suite.

Overview: The three remaining apartments are each two bedroom properties, offering en-suites, landscaped communal gardens and contemporary furnishings. Standing on a site formerly occupied by the Barbush Linen Mill means the development is in close proximity to the town’s river, with waterfront views from some of the apartments. There’s no mistaking the development from the road, thanks to wooden cladding at the top of each three and four-storey block, wraparound windows extending the full height of some corners, and angled gables breaking up the roofline. Overview: As you might expect, Kingston Dock stands on the waterfront, with panoramic views across to Cardross and Dumbarton. To reinforce those family-friendly credentials, every street bar the main thoroughfare is a no through road, with detached villas lining the streets and terraced townhouses at the end of each cul-de-sac. These latter designs have adopted an uncomplicated layout, placing the lounge and kitchen on the ground floor and two bedrooms on the intermediate level. The Ness is the most common design with some memorable features such as the box bay window and integrated storage in the formal lounge. Christened Riverside Point, this part of Ferry Village will ultimately contain 342 new homes, and to encourage the creation of a genuinely mixed community atmosphere, everything from apartments to terraced, semi and detached villas will be created. Drawn from Redrow’s existing portfolio of home designs, the buildings will nevertheless have different exteriors, reflecting the unique nature of this particular development, close to Braehead shopping centre and the Xscape leisure centre.

Overview: Renfrew’s regeneration is mirroring similar projects to the east, taking advantage of redundant Clydeside land to create whole new suburbs of waterfront properties. Ferry Village has one major advantage in that Braehead and its surrounding amenities are quite literally at the end of the street, and Best’s properties will include apartments, mews homes and townhouses. Of the mews homes, the Ballantyne places a double bedroom and cloakroom on the ground floor, the former with an entire wall of wardrobes and French doors. Upstairs, a 22 foot lounge and dining room are open plan to a Velux windowed kitchen, with a pentagonal master bedroom.

Overview: The development can be neatly summarised as a collection of four bedroom detached villas, situated across a T-shaped estate directly off Glenfield Road, the latter recently immortalised in a song by Paolo Nutini. As for Gleniffer View itself, the four property types being built include the quirky Miami. A 21 foot bay windowed lounge opens into a dining room, with a sweeping L-shaped apartment forming an open plan family room and kitchen. There’s a utility area inside the garage, the master bedroom is a dormer apartment almost twice as long as it is wide, bedroom two has a pentagonal en-suite and even the third bedroom is 14 feet in length.
